American Packaging Corporation (APC) is expanding its Roto Center of Excellence in DeForest, Wisconsin, US, with an investment of $50m.

As part of the expansion, the company will add 126,000ft² of space to the facility, which opened in 2017.

The expansion will enable the company to increase the production of its rotogravure printed products with converting technologies and system automation.

The facility features newly updated web handling and controls that help the company in converting extensible substrates, minimise waste and the carbon footprint on two new rotogravure printing presses, an adhesive laminator and additional slitting equipment.

American Packaging president Jeff Koch said: “Brand owners expect the ultimate impact from that first moment of truth for the consumer on the grocer’s shelf. Roto printing delivers that impact.

“The innovative technologies that we are advancing will add jobs to APC’s Roto Complex and enhance our capacity for packaging that is expected and embraced by the new plastic economy.”

“The new normal is that packaging will also help transition away from a single use and dispose standard. Our systems will always combine the ideal graphic reproduction with the most efficient converting streams.

The company expects to complete the expansion of the facility and commence production for customers in the second quarter of 2020.

In addition, APC is investing in internal cylinder etching to enhance the response time of the facility, which is expected to go live in August.

In July, APC commenced operations at its new 215,000ft² facility in the town of Chili, Monroe County, US.
