UK-based sustainable corrugated packaging maker Rigid Containers has installed a Bahmueller Turbox Folder Gluer at its Wellington facility.

The installation follows a £4m investment programme at the Wellington plant. The Turbox Folder Gluer will be installed alongside the Bobst DRO six-colour rotary die-cutter and BP Agnati Quantum corrugator at the site.

The system features a modular design with short set-up times and high running speeds to offer maximum throughput. It is capable of handling various box sizes from around 225mm x 125mm.

Rigid Containers group sales and marketing director Julian Freeman said: “Having recently invested in both a new corrugator and six-colour printer at Wellington, ensuring we had the latest box-making capability was the next logical step.

“With the focus increasingly on sustainable packaging solutions, we have seen increasing demand for corrugated boxes. These high-specification machines will ensure we can respond quickly to customer and market requirements.”

The Turbox Folder Gluer features a Diagonal Fold Supervision, which allows it to supervise the folding process, and a HHS glue detections system to automatically detect any missed glued product on the run, which will be removed from the product using the Unique Eject.

The machine is also capable of forming crash-lock and four-corner boxes, offering optimal handling and performance with difficult box styles.

Turbox also features Boxflow Control that acts as a graphical user interface (GUI) between the operator and machine, enabling them to control all machine adjustments and data access.

Operators can also use the GUI display of the Boxflow Control to enter key data to set-up variable or special designs, which will be used by the system to automatically calculate the basic machine and glue settings for each application.
