Nearly 30 individual pouches of baby food have been found with holes across six supermarkets in Auckland and one in Napier.

The affected products have been pulled out of shelves from Countdown, SuperValue and FreshChoice stores across the country.

NZFS compliance director Gary Orr advised parents to check the packaging of baby food pouches before using them.

Orr said: “To be on the safe side, if you have any doubts about any baby food pouches in your home, please let the retailer know and return it to the store if you can, as this might help us track down the cause of the damage. If you have any medical concerns about your children seek medical advice.”

Meanwhile, Orr said that supermarket chain Woolworths NZ has issued a recall of a range of squeezable baby food pouches from its stores nationwide.

He said that the notice followed a mice infestation at two of Woolworth NZ’s Auckland distribution centres.

Orr stated: “It now looks likely that the damage was caused by these mice infestations. However, we continue to work to rule out any other possible issues in the supply chain.

“In the meantime, we are working with Woolworths NZ to ensure corrective actions are taken so that this doesn’t happen again.”
