US-based AgroFresh Solutions has made an undisclosed minority investment in RipeLocker and its proprietary system for low-pressure vacuum containers.
The patent-pending system is said to extend the shelf life and reduce decay of perishable produce.

RipeLocker's solution maintains atmospheric pressure, humidity and gas composition in order to preserve fruit and vegetables.
The solution also aims to protect produce from harsh operating and environmental conditions along the post-harvest distribution chain.
AgroFresh Solutions CEO Jordi Ferre said: “RipeLocker is another potential avenue for AgroFresh to expand into new technologies serving the high-value segments of the produce industry, including the organic segment of the market.
“We are pleased to be making an early investment in RipeLocker, and excited about the prospects for its technology.”

In September, the company announced that it has co-developed proprietary sensors to observe ethylene and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), the active ingredient in SmartFresh post-harvest technology.
Launched in North America and Europe, the sensors have been designed to enhance insights into the condition of fruit placed in refrigerated and controlled atmosphere storage rooms.
