Denmark-based tray packaging provider Faerch Plast has received a European patent for its MAPET II mono material used in the packaging of fresh meat, poultry and fish.
Manufactured from post-consumer recycled materials, MAPET II is a new mono packaging tray produced from a single material and specially developed for top sealing of fresh meat, poultry and fish.
The product helps consumers to carry packs without the risk of leakage and potential contamination from juices.
It possesses the same properties as multi-layer materials, but is made using mono amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET).
MAPET II is cost-effective compared to non-recyclable laminates, and the trays can be used with a range of lidding films, such as market standard polyethylene (PE), and processors.
Instead of including a PE top layer, Faerch Plast adds a small amount of special adhesive to the rim of each tray to ensure that it can be sealed easily.

Faerch Plast CEO Lars Gade Hansen said: "We are proud to be granted the European patent for MAPET II.

The company has developed various rigid packaging solutions from different materials, such as CPET, APET, PP, MAPET II, AMPET and PP-EVOH-PE.
