Toray Plastics America has introduced Torayfan PWX5, a new metallised biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film, to its existing range of packaging films.
Designed to be used as high-performance, inner moisture and oxygen-barrier web in gas-flushed applications, the company says Torayfan PWX5 is ideal for the packaging of salty, flavourful snacks, cookies, crackers, biscuits and confectionery items.

Toray said that one side of PWX5 film is vacuum-deposited aluminium on Toray’s proprietary ultra-barrier layer, which produces a packaging film that has superior metal adhesion and a shiny appearance, while other side of the film has a stable coefficient of friction (COF) and is heat-sealable.
Commenting on the development, Toray Plastics America Torayfan Division product manager Kerri Boyens said: "The ongoing expansion of global distribution channels makes shelf life a primary concern of the CPG.
"PWX5 metallised BOPP film, with its barrier-protection capabilities, is the solution to a significant packaging challenge."
The Torayfan Division of the company houses five lines that produce 100 million pounds of BOPP for packaging and ten million pounds for industrial applications.
