Bosch Packaging Technology has introduced the new Sigpack HCUL horizontal flow wrapper for packaging individual vials.

With a capacity to package up to 300 single blow-fill-seal (BFS) vials per minute, the machine uses long-dwell cross-sealing technology that ensures hermetic packages even at high speed.

Bosch Packaging claims that the balcony design of the cross-sealing unit with individually mounted heating elements allows for easy access and fast changeover.

The Sigpack HCUL flow wrapper can be equipped with either ultrasonic or heat sealing technology, as per the application requirements.

This system has primary packaging units, delivered as BFS cards, which are inserted into the machine with the help of a Sigpack LDF Delta robot or other intelligent loading solutions.

Sigpack HCUL flow wrapper, with a control system, has the capability of monitoring the alignment of the products, as well as the information printed on the packaging, such as the barcode.

The machine will deliver only hermetically sealed packages while the packages that are not compliant with the specifications are automatically rejected.

"The Sigpack HCUL flow wrapper can be equipped with either ultrasonic or heat sealing technology, as per the application requirements."

Bosch’s Sigpack HCUL can accommodate modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and can be modified for a variety of functions, such as the innovative real-time (RT) MAP system.

The RT-MAP and the sensor for measuring residual oxygen content are integrated in the sealing unit, which enables real-time measurement of residual oxygen content in the package, rejecting those that have excessive residual oxygen.

Bosch Packaging Systems pharmaceutical and medical sales manager Jörg Kleiner said: "Authorities such as the FDA increasingly demand that vials be packed separately and not as vial cards, also known as ‘unit dose packaging’.

"Not only do pharmaceutical manufacturers need to meet these requirements, but at the same time maintain high productivity."
