A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11961972B1) discloses a flexible multi-battery assembly designed with a unique structure. The assembly comprises a first current collector and a second current collector, with a plurality of electrochemically active stacks sandwiched between them. Each electrochemically active stack consists of a positive active material layer, an electrolyte layer, and a negative active material layer. The second current collector acts as a continuous structure supporting the electrochemically active stacks, which are flexible and directly contact the first current collector portions. Additionally, a boundary insulator surrounds each electrochemically active stack, providing support and structure to the overall assembly.

Furthermore, the flexible multi-battery assembly includes an insulator layer adhered to the first outer surface, with insulator openings allowing exposure of portions of the second inner surface. The thickness of the assembly is less than 400 micrometers, making it extremely thin and flexible. The electrolyte layer within each electrochemically active stack is printed and may contain an ionic liquid with specific conductivity characteristics. The negative active material layer predominantly consists of elemental zinc, ensuring efficient battery performance. Overall, the patented design offers a compact, flexible, and structurally sound multi-battery assembly suitable for various applications requiring lightweight and bendable power sources.
