The US packaging industry saw a rise of 55.6% in overall deal activity during Q4 2020, when compared with the last four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 42 deals worth $1.45bn were announced in Q4 2020, compared to the last four-quarter average of 27 deals.
M&A was the leading category in the quarter with 29 deals which accounted for 69.05% of all deals.
In second place was private equity with 12 deals, followed by venture financing with one transactions, respectively accounting for 28.6% and 2.4% of overall deal activity in the country’s packaging industry during the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US packaging industry with total deals worth $1.43bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $12.6m and $7m, respectively.

The top three packaging deals accounted for 99.3% of the overall value during Q4 2020.
The combined value of the top five packaging deals stood at $1.44bn, against the overall value of $1.45bn recorded for the month.
The top three packaging industry deals of Q4 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:
1) Roth CH Acquisition $1.2bn acquisition of PureCycle Technologies
2) The $232m acquisition of PalletOne by UFP Industries
3) DAIWA Myanmar Growth Fund L.P and Myanmar Opportunities Fund II’s $12.6m private equity deal with Commercial Plastics
