Global manufacturer of plastic packaging products Berry Plastics has announced plans to close its plant in Madisonville, Kentucky, US, in order to streamline operations and improve cost structures.

Berry Plastics chief operating officer Randy Becker said a review of the company’s overall manufacturing operations following the acquisition determined that due to excess capacity, the company has other sites that have the capability to make the products.

The company has not decided future plans for the Madisonville facility and will transfer some of the business currently done in Madisonville to the Evansville closures plant.

Both the Madisonville and Evansville sites are part of the specialty and beverage closures business, which Berry recently acquired from Rexam for about $360m.
