Packaging machinery manufacturer Bosch Packaging Technology has shifted its business operations from Honjo to a new location in Musashi, around 70km north of Tokyo.

Spanning an area of around 3,240m², the site will provide more space for the development and assembly of inspection technology for the pharmaceuticals industry.

The company owns four sites in Japan. At Funabashi, east of Tokyo, packaging equipment and robotics for the firms operating in the food and pharmaceutical sectors are developed and assembled.

The company has invested in the Musashi site as it believes that Japan is a key market for pharmaceutical inspection technology.

Bosch Packaging Technology Asia-Pacific region member of the management board Peter Tyroller said that with the latest move, the company focuses on providing its customers with better products.

"Expansion of the Bosch global center of competence in Japan is important for our innovative strength," Tyroller added.

Bosch Packaging Technology Japan general manager and inspection technology pharma unit head Joachim Baczewski said: "We want to build on the experience we have amassed in Japan over many decades and offer our customers technology that is ‘Invented for life’ around the world."

Established in 2012, the company’s inspection technology unit provides manual, semi-automated, and fully automated inspection machines designed to identify particles in pharmaceutical products. The unit also includes the cosmetic inspection of containers or tablets in order to detect scratches or discolouration defects.
