Canon has unveiled the corrPRESS iB17, an industrial inkjet press designed for high-volume corrugated packaging production.
The launch took place at the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) Technical Seminar 2025 in Rome, held from 8 to 10 October.

The corrPRESS iB17 delivers printing speeds of up to 8,000m² per hour, equivalent to 15 million square metres annually.
It produces offset-quality output directly onto corrugated boards up to 1.7m wide, using water-based inks and primer suitable for indirect food contact.
The press is intended for short-to-medium-length production runs and is equipped with automation features that reduce operator requirements and turnaround times.
It builds on Canon’s experience in commercial digital printing, following a concept presentation at drupa 2024, the world’s leading trade show for print technologies.

By GlobalDataThe system addresses the needs of corrugated converters who require shorter runs, faster turnaround times and cost efficiency.
It supports print runs of up to 20,000m² and incorporates automated printhead cleaning, quality control and print-on-demand capabilities to limit waste and remove the need for plates or chemicals.
The press includes Canon’s proprietary 1200 dpi piezo printheads and water-based pigment inks, initially available in CMYK and later expanding to OVG.
It produces offset-like quality in post-print applications on coated and uncoated boards and uses an advanced spot primer for improved colour precision and ink adhesion.
The ink is applied immediately after priming without intermediate drying, ensuring production reliability.
The corrPRESS iB17 features Canon’s optimised drying technology designed to reduce energy use and prevent board distortion.
It can handle boards up to 1.7m wide, 1.3m long, and between 1mm and 8mm thick, operating at a linear speed of 80m/min.
Canon has developed all principal components of the system — including printheads, inks, and drying units — to ensure consistent integration and performance.
Peter Wolff, chief marketing officer and senior vice-president at Canon production printing, stated: “The announcement of the Canon corrPRESS iB17 marks a pivotal milestone in Canon’s journey to becoming a key player in the packaging industry and reflects our deep commitment to supporting corrugated converters as they navigate today’s unprecedented challenges.
“By combining proven proprietary inkjet technology with an industrial board transport system, we have developed an innovative press that delivers offset-quality prints with outstanding productivity and digital flexibility, all developed for indirect food contact applications.
“Designed for seamless integration into existing production environments, the highly automated corrPRESS iB17 extends the economic benefits of digital printing far beyond traditional short-run applications.”
