Clariant has commenced operations at its new Healthcare Packaging production site at Cuddalore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, to cater to pharmaceutical packaging markets in India and Asia-Pacific.
Intended to enhance the firm’s production capacity for desiccant canisters, the new facility will produce Sorb-it, Tri-Sorb, 2-in-1 Can and Getter Can sorbent canisters.
The products manufactured at the site are said to meet the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and European Union (EU) standards required for pharmaceutical use.
Clariant Healthcare Packaging business line head Matthias Brommer said: “The new site has been validated as scheduled, and we look forward to serving customers with Clariant desiccants directly from Cuddalore.
“By manufacturing regionally, we will be able to provide improved supply and service to our significant customer base in India while further addressing important and emerging markets in Greater China, the rest of Asia and Australia.”
The Clariant Healthcare Packaging facility includes eight clean rooms and has obtained various certifications such as GMP and ISO.
With new manufacturing equipment, the site is expected to aid the firm in meeting business continuity planning (BCP) requirements with the production of identical products at various sites.
Clariant Healthcare Packaging India head Ketan Premani added: “Clariant canisters are among the most widely used pharmaceutical desiccants by generic manufacturers in India.
“Thanks to the latest manufacturing equipment and product design, customers can expect the highest level of quality, and now with improved customer service.”
