Cobalt Systems, a UK-based printing systems manufacturer, has launched its NEXUS20 Linerless Print and Apply range to boost operational efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of businesses.

The new linerless technology utilises direct thermal media from UPM Adhesive Materials, streamlining production and cutting waste.

Part of the NEXUS20 series, the new system is designed to eliminate the need for traditional label backing materials, reducing raw material usage by up to 50%.

This innovation not only cuts waste but also increases the number of labels per roll, leading to less frequent changeovers and improved uptime for production lines.

The NEXUS20 Linerless system accommodates standard 4in and 6in widths and is capable of printing, cutting, and applying labels to the required length, which reduces the need for ribbons.

Each reel delivers double the yield of a reel with a liner, which means fewer roll changes, lower storage needs, and reduced shipping costs.

Cobalt Systems managing director and founder Tony Hunt said: “We’ve invested significant time in research, development, and rigorous field testing to ensure our NEXUS20 Linerless Print and Apply range meets the same exacting standards our customers have come to expect from Cobalt.

“This isn’t just about adopting new technology, it’s about giving our customers complete confidence in a solution that performs reliably, day in and day out, in the most demanding environments, whilst delivering all the benefits of linerless labels.”

Manufactured in Cheshire, England, the new system offers high application speeds, high print resolution, and can be seamlessly integrated into existing infrastructures. It is suitable for sectors such as food and beverage, logistics, and pharmaceutical packaging, meeting the industry’s demand for more sustainable packaging practices.

With over 25 years of engineering experience, Cobalt’s linerless solutions come with a three-year warranty and are supported by UK-based installation and service teams.

Hunt added: “Linerless labelling represents a smart and effective step forward in reducing material waste and carbon impact. When combined with the fact that these systems are manufactured in the UK by a certified carbon-neutral company, it’s a solution that not only supports operational efficiency but also helps our customers move meaningfully toward their environmental goals.”
