US manufacturer Colbert Packaging has announced the closure of its manufacturing facility in Louisville, Kentucky, US.
Operations will end within 60 days in an effort to streamline the business to meet the increasing demand from customers for cost containment. Colbert Packaging president Jim Hamilton three other facilities will gain equipment and accounts from the closure, as well as customers benefiting from an increased capacity, the improving of operations and a reduction in cost containment.

Customers serviced through Louisville will be transferred to other facilities, including the company’s two operations in Lake Forest, Illinois, and one in Elkhart, Indiana. The stock box programme, acquired from carton manufacturer Dayton Carton, will be moved to the 109,000ft2 Elkhart facility.
Colbert gained the 33,500ft2 Louisville facility in December 2009, along with equipment and other items from buying the failing Dayton Carton. It kept the operation running for more than two years. In December last year, the facility received sustainable forestry initiative (SFI) chain of custody certification (NSF-SFICOC-C0038447) from NSF-ISR, an organisation accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for its compliance with the strict tracking requirements for certified paperboard originating in well-managed forests.
The Louisville plant is cGMP-compliant and produces custom folding cartons and other packaging solutions for customers in markets such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, food, automotive, hardware and other consumer goods.
