M&As this week: DS Smith, Reach Group, Huhtamaki

DS Smith has agreed to acquire Papeles y Cartones de Europa (Europac) for €1.9bn ($2.2bn) and raise approximately £1bn ($1.3bn) in a rights offering of shares.

Based in the UK, DS Smith is engaged in packaging, while Europac is a Spanish company that produces integrated packaging.

DS Smith has selected Goldman Sachs International as lead financial adviser and JP Morgan Securities as financial adviser for the transaction.

Reach Group has acquired Reachmount DAC from Paramount Packaging Systems by purchasing a 50% stake.

Based in Ireland, Reach Group is a subsidiary of Irish media company Independent News and Media. Reachmount DAC is an Ireland-based packaging company that is trading as Reach Retail Services.

Based in the UK, Paramount Packaging Systems is engaged in the distribution and stocking of flexible packaging products.

Huhtamaki has acquired a 70% stake in Cup Print Unlimited Company for €22m ($25.5m) on a debt-free basis.

Based in Finland, Huhtamaki is engaged in the manufacture of food and drinks, while Cup Print Unlimited Company is an Ireland-based paper cup manufacturer.

CCL Industries has purchased a 50% interest in CCL-Korsini from Korsini-Saf Ambalaj Sanayi Ve Ticaret (Korsini) for C$3.9m ($3.01m).

CCL-Korsini is a US-based in-mould labels (IML) manufacturer that was formed as a joint venture (JV) between CCL Industries’ subsidiary CCL Label and Korsini in 2015.

Following the acquisition, the JV will become a part of CCL Label, serving the food, beverage, home and personal care sectors.

Based in Canada, CCL Industries provides pressure-sensitive and extruded film materials, while Korsini is a Turkey-based label packaging company.

CCL has simultaneously completed the acquisition of Israel-based packaging labels manufacturer Nortec International for $9m cash and assumed debt.
