The inks have been developed after research and development conducted for a period of three years solving critical chemistry challenges. The research ensured that the colour change is meaningful to consumers, affordable for brands and also scalable in a global manufacturing environment.

Available in red, green or blue, the thermochromic tabs offer brands an additional option for cold guarantee beyond the sidewall. It is particularly useful for serving drinks in ice chests and crowded refrigerators.

CTI founder and president Lyle Small told Packaging Europe: "CTI has had an explosion of innovation in the last 12 months, and cold-activated tabs are one of the highest-scoring ideas for purchase intent across beer, soda and energy drinks."
