As part of the launch, Emirates Biotech has begun pre-marketing activities across the Middle East.

The company is making PLA available from local stock with the aim of shortening lead times and accommodating lower minimum order quantities for converters, brand owners and packaging manufacturers.

Its technical team will also work with customers on-site to assist with processing trials and application development.

Emirates Biotech’s Embio PLA materials are formulated to deliver high clarity, strength and processability while offering a much reduced carbon footprint compared with conventional plastics.

The material can be either recycled or industrially composted and is stated not to “leave behind persistent microplastics in the environment”.

PLA is produced from plant-based feedstocks and can be recycled or composted industrially.

The company links the Embio introduction to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 agenda and the country’s circular economy goals.

Emirates Biotech CEO Marc Verbruggen stated: “Our launch of Embio products marks a major milestone in our journey to make renewable and compostable plastics accessible across the Middle East. The Embio name covers more than a product and stands as a symbol of our commitment to innovation, to reducing dependence on fossil resources, and to supporting the region in building a circular economy.”

Emirates Biotech develops and supplies PLA biopolymers for sectors such as consumer goods, appliances, packaging, food service ware and 3D printing.

It presents these materials as renewable, recyclable and biodegradable options to replace standard fossil-based plastics.
