Developed in collaboration with circular logistics specialist Returnity, the container uses a design specific to FedEx and is intended to be integrated into the existing FedEx network.

The reusable box enables businesses to move away from corrugated cardboard without paying additional handling charges often linked to non-standard packaging.
The design is “durable, collapsible” and compatible with automated systems, FedEx said in a statement.
Returnity CEO Mike Newman said: “FedEx made reuse make sense by building the business case, doing the work, and creating a model for how circular logistics can succeed at scale.”
Unlike single-use solutions that rely on end consumers to return packaging, the system is built for closed-loop settings such as fulfilment centres, store restocking, and service support operations.

By GlobalDataEach container is designed to be reused for up to 50 shipping cycles and to transport weighing up to 50lb of goods.
FedEx reports that using this system could reduce packaging costs by up to 30% per cycle and decrease carbon emissions by between 64% and 88% compared with single-use corrugated boxes.
According to the transportation company, participants noted quicker unpacking and restocking times, gains in labour efficiency, improved organisation in storage areas, and fewer instances of product damage.
Available in the US, FedEx plans to make the solution available in Australia and Europe in future stages.
FedEx global customer experience senior vice-president Neil Gibson said: “In collaboration with Returnity, we have created the first scalable, reusable box solution for B2B customers, which is especially useful for our soft-goods shippers.
“By pairing Returnity’s durable, easy-to-integrate packaging with our global network, we’re helping retailers unlock meaningful cost savings while reducing environmental impact, all without sacrificing speed or reliability. This new solution supports our vision to make supply chains smarter for everyone.”
