German firm Feldmuehle Uetersen has launched a new heat-sealable paper solution for packaging manufacturers and packing companies to provide an environmentally friendly solution for flexible packaging.
Featuring a heat-sealable reverse side, the coated paper can be seamlessly used on the existing packaging lines and recycled in the wastepaper cycle.
Dutch co-pack service provider Nomi Co-Packing has already successfully manufactured and filled stand-up pouches with the new heat-sealable paper solution.
Nomi Co-Packing technical manager René Beijsens said: “The new material is ideally suited for our stand-up pouch packaging line.
“On top of this, the change in material, from foil to heat-sealable paper, was possible without any additional changes to our machine setting.”
The new solution enables Feldmuehle to further extend its wide product range within its packaging solution business, thereby offering brandowners a natural and recyclable material option that can be used in form, fill and seal packing lines similar to plastic films.
Available with a high white, glossy or matt surface, the latest product is best suited for use in high-quality printed packaging and simple inner pouch solutions.
Feldmuehle Uetersen technical marketing manager Stefan Eitze said: “For applications that don’t require a barrier function from the material, our product offers an environmentally friendly alternative, made primarily from cellulose instead of plastics.”
The heat-sealable paper material gets its sealing functionality during the paper manufacturing process with a water-based dispersion coating applied.
The product is user-friendly that provides a simple and controlled tearing opening option of the packaging for the consumer.
Perforations and notches that are required for opening film packaging are not needed for the new paper-based material.
The material is also repulpable in the wastepaper recycling process, which makes the raw materials reusable.
