Germany-based Krones has upgraded a NitroHotfill line, which became operational last year, at Turkish tea vendor Dogus Cay’s facility in Izmir, Ödemis.
Dogus Cay bought the NitroHotfill line from Krones to produce iced teas in consumer-friendly polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers.
The company currently produces nearly 35,000t of tea per year in five facilities in Rize, Turkey. It also operates a packaging plant in Ordu, located on the Black Sea coast of Turkey.
Equipped with a Contiform 3 blow-moulder, Dogus Cay’s NitroHotfill line produces 2,500 containers per hour. The 250ml hotfill PET containers produced at the site weigh 15g on ten moulds.
As part of the upgrade, a Krones team conducted an on-site trial to improve the NitroHotfill line’s compressed-air system.
Following the renovation, the line is expected to save around €40,000 annually.

Designed to provide an affordable alternative to the traditional hotfill process, Krones’ NitroHotfill line is developed using a relax-cooling (RC) process.
Krones further noted that the NitroHotfill technology could be retrofitted to many of its hotfill lines.
