Packaging and plastic company the Glad Products Company has introduced recyclable food bags through Loop pilot programme in the US.

Initiated by TerraCycle, the pilot programme enables consumers to participate in sustainability through in-home plastic bag recycling.

Consumers can subscribe and order products online, which will get delivered in the food bags. The bags can be recycled and reused via a reusable steel container and return pouch.

Glad brand manager Drew Kozlak said: “Glad’s purpose is to help consumers outsmart waste.

“Offering responsible consumer product solutions is just one of the ways we are committed to sustainability, so we are really excited to explore this option that lets you easily recycle your food bags.”

Owned by The Clorox Company, Glad specialises in kitchen and outdoor trash bags and food protection products.

Glad’s participation in Loop supports its parent company’s packaging-oriented environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

Clorox, which is also a signatory of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, has committed to developing new business models and solutions to support a circular economy.

In May last year, the company announced that its Clorox disinfecting wipes (crisp lemon) and Hidden Valley Original Ranch topping and dressing will participate in the pilot programme.

Glad’s food protection product was added to the list of participants later in the year.

Part of the United Nations Global Compact, Clorox manufactures and markets consumer and professional products.

Loop is a circular shopping platform that seeks to replace single-use disposable packaging with recyclable and reusable products.
