Graphic Packaging International has announced plans to close its carton facility in La Porte, Indiana, and move the business to other existing operations in the US.

The company has also said that it plans to consolidate certain corporate and business unit functions.

GPI president and CEO David Scheible said that the changes will help to ensure the company’s continued success in the paperboard packaging space.

The company anticipates one-time costs of $6-8m in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012.

The closure will affect about 220 employees.
