Plastic packaging provider Greiner Packaging has opened a new production plant in Pittston Township, Pennsylvania, which is its first manufacturing plant in the US.

Spread over an area of approximately 114,000ft², the plant will focus on the production of plastic packaging for dairy products.

The company has invested around $17m in the development of the Pittston Township production site. Additionally, Greiner Packaging plans to increase its workforce by adding around 125 manufacturing jobs by next year.

Greiner Packaging CEO Michael Reiser was quoted by The Times Leader as saying: "We have hired 36 people so far.

"We have hired 36 people so far."

"We want to grow up to 200, taking one small step at a time."

The company has also entered into a lease for 113,871ft² of space in a 223,387ft² building at 225 Enterprise Way, which will serve as the company’s US headquarters.

Greiner Packaging will receive a $104,000 Guaranteed Free Training grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, which will be used in training the new workforce. The company will also receive a $450,000 Pennsylvania First Program grant that provides investment and job creation, as well as $256,000 in job creation tax credits.

Greiner Packaging, which operates as a subsidiary of Greiner Holding, manufactures and markets plastic packaging solutions for the food and non-food industries.

Headquartered in Austria, the company offers plastic cups and PET bottles.
