Entirely made from polyolefin, the new film improves the bags' print-quality material and protects their contents from moisture.

"Laminated bags have already done well in Pakistan and Bangladesh and consumption is already on the rise in Indian market."

Cosmo Films CEO Pankaj Poddar said: “India is world’s second largest cement producer after China with production estimates of approximately 300 million tonnes per annum with production figures estimated to reach 407 million tonnes per annum by FY17.

“With only 15% of the cement being packed in block bottom bags, there is a huge potential in converting these bags into laminated ones and upgrading the traditional PP stitched bags as well.

The bags can be used to pack other building materials as well as a variety of staples, including rice, flour, sugar, pet foods, fertilisers and chemicals.
