Packaging producer Innovia Films has developed a range of cellulose-based films for coffee pouches.

When laminated with other biomaterials, the NatureFlex films can provide a fully renewable filmic structure suitable for coffee pouches, the company claims.

Innovia Films market developer Cello Neil Banerjee said that the films offer a viable alternative to coffee producers looking for a lightweighted and protective packaging structure which is also compostable and made from renewable resources.

The NatureFlex films can be combined with other biopolymers by a converter and comply with standards for compostable packaging, including EN13432, AS4736 and ASTM D6400.
