Germany-based specialist film producer Klöckner Pentaplast, along with Linpac, has created a new modified atmosphere pack (MAP) for fresh perishable food and liquid products.

Developed to help reduce food waste, the new MAP incorporates an APET++ rigid base web from Klöckner Pentaplast, as well as a Linpac LINtop polyethylene terephthalate (PET) HB barrier lidding film.

Featuring anti-fog and enhanced haze properties of LINtop PET HB, as well as improved burst peel performance, the new MAP pack also offers imoshelf appeal to the retailers.

The new packaging is said to be lighter and more sustainable than PE and polypropylene (PP) sealant lidding film equivalents.

The fully recyclable packaging also enables packers and retailers to send their packs to market in less duration, offering enhanced food safety and security throughout the supply chain.

“Our combined expertise has resulted in a high-performance, stand-out pack that meets our objective of delivering real cost-saving and efficiency benefits to our customers."

Linpac barrier films business manager Erwan Cadoret said: “We’re delighted with the result of our collaboration with the team at Klöckner Pentaplast.

Furthermore, Klöckner Pentaplast noted that packers can process the APET++ lightweight mono film at lower sealing temperatures and with a shorter seal time on thermoforming lines than comparable PET sealant base webs.

The improved heat transmission also allows an increased thermoforming speed for packers.
