Lubrizol Performance Coatings has completed the expansion and modernisation at its solvent acrylics production facility in Barcelona, Spain, a move that will support growth in the global packaging market.

The solvent acrylic resin technology for topcoats and primers is imperative to meet speciality packaging requirements related to vacuum metallisation, hot stamp foil and holographic printing applications. Each plays a key role in packaging innovation for security, aesthetics and functional properties of substrates.

"These upgrades were critical to ensuring a highly reliable unit, meeting our customers’ demand and quality expectations and reaching our high-performance goals."

Work under the expansion included the automation of two independent production lines for the highly specialised solvent acrylic resin.

The automation created efficiency and flexibility while also improving quality and increasing capacity.

Lubrizol Performance Coatings has equipped the plant with a new loading system for monomers and solvents, new premix and initiator tanks and their related dosing systems, new filters, two new bulk resins pipelines and a semi-automatic packaging machine.

This upgrade also enabled the integration of these production lines into the plant’s distributed control system.
