The centre will house an R&D unit, an auditorium, a museum, a library and a demo centre that would be accessible to the public.

The consumption of plastics in India has recently increased as most industries prefer packaging made of plastic materials that can be recycled and reused.

Manjushree’s latest move has received support from several industry bodies including the PET Packaging Association for Clean Environment (PACE) and All India Plastic Manufacturer’s Association (AIPMA).

The company is working with fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms and others to develop products made of recyclable plastics.

Manjushree Technopack managing director Vimal Kedia noted that nearly 60% of total plastic waste collected per day in India is recycled, while the leftover 6,137t of waste remains uncollected as litter.

"Through various initiatives and activities organised at the centre, we will not only be encouraging people to reuse and recycle PET plastic waste, but also educate them on how plastic, if developed and used wisely, doesn’t pose a threat to the environment," Kedia added.
