It is also intended to raise awareness of Melissa & Doug’s sustainability efforts and expedite the company’s target to make 95% of its product packaging recyclable at kerbsides by the end of 2025.

The company will start printing How2Recycle labels on its product packaging later this year.

Melissa & Doug chief marketing and sustainability officer Bridgette Miller said: “Creating high-quality, timeless toys that can be passed down from generation to generation has always been our mission.

“By keeping toys — and their packaging — out of landfills, we reduce waste and contribute to a healthy planet, laying a better foundation for generations to come.

“We know parents are looking for ways to take meaningful action during this time of environmental uncertainty, so we are thrilled to partner with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition to help educate consumers through its How2Recycle programme.”

The SPC is a membership-based sustainable packaging collaborative that launched the How2Recycle label programme in 2008.

Through the programme, companies provide messages to their customers on how to dispose of packages using labelling.

Melissa & Doug said it supports the SPC’s efforts to increase the availability and quality of recycled materials and create eco-friendly packaging.

The company manufactures toys using sustainable materials such as wood and paper.

Earlier this year, Melissa & Doug revealed plans to make all its wood and paper products Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified this year.

The company had previously pledged to ensure all its paper products and more than half its wood products sold are made using material from responsibly managed forests by 2025.
