Mondelēz International has teamed up with Amcor to offer sustainable packaging for its Cadbury Easter products.

The company will introduce new packaging made with Amcor’s AmFiniti Recycled Content for Easter 2026.

This material is derived from post-consumer plastic waste, which is processed into new packaging through advanced recycling technology.

The initiative involves sourcing 134 tonnes of recycled plastic for packaging, which will be used across various Cadbury Easter lines.

This volume is expected to cover around 16 million seasonal chocolate tablets and 70 million bags of Mini Eggs a year.

From 2026, the packaging for Cadbury Mini Eggs in 31.9g, 74g, and 256g sizes will contain 65% certified recycled plastic while Easter chocolate tablets will have wrappers made with 80% certified recycled content.

Both changes use a mass balance method to allocate recycled material.

Additionally, the ribbon handle on the Cadbury Special Gesture Easter Egg range will be replaced with cardboard.

These developments follow earlier efforts by Mondelēz to reduce plastic use in its Easter products, including introducing paper-based pouches and removing millions of plastic windows from packaging.

To inform consumers, upcoming Mini Egg bags will feature a QR code on the back, linking to details about the use of recycled materials and the company’s packaging practices.

Mondelēz said that its goal is for 98% of its packaging to be designed for recyclability and clearly labelled by 2030.

The company currently reports that 96% of its total packaging meets recyclable design standards.

There are also plans to reduce virgin plastic use in rigid plastic packaging by at least 25% within the same period.

“Continuing our partnership with Amcor to grow our impact, our Cadbury Mini Eggs this Easter are another fantastic milestone for Mondelēz UK&I as we work towards the delivery of Mondelēz’s global sustainability goals, namely, reducing our use of virgin plastic.

Last year, Mondelēz launched a trial of paper tubs for its Cadbury Heroes range in Tesco stores. This test, produced alongside DS Smith, was part of efforts to reduce virgin plastic across its product lines.
