The equipment is intended to support long-term mill operations, improve energy efficiency and strengthen environmental performance.

The bark boiler will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, while the new digester is expected to improve energy and water usage across production and has further enhanced the strength of the company’s paper products.

The Dynäs mill holds official recognition from the Swedish edition of Guinness World Records for producing the world’s strongest paper.

The fibre line and digester were brought into operation during the site’s annual maintenance shutdown in May 2025.

Construction was carried out within a restricted space at the mill while keeping operations running.

At peak activity, up to 650 workers were on site, more than 50% above normal staffing levels.

Safety oversight was based on continuous on-site monitoring using a “boots-on-the-ground” approach.

The modernisation lifts Mondi’s production capacity, lowers carbon emissions and improves resource efficiency as part of the mill’s long-term development plans.

Mondi Dynäs sustainability manager Malin Sjöstrand stated: “High visibility, frequent engagement and close collaboration between Safety Health and Environment teams and site functions helped keep safety at the forefront every day.”
