Packaging and paper firm Mondi has agreed to acquire a corrugated plant from SIMET in Poland for an undisclosed amount.

located in Grabonóg near Poznan, the plant produces a wide range of flexo-printed packaging, including American cases, die-cut and multipoint folder-glued boxes.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Mondi plans to upgrade the SIMET plant, turning it into a high-efficiency box plant.

The plant will be integrated into Mondi’s corrugated packaging business division that currently operates 14 box plants in central and emerging Europe.

Mondi’s unit offers corrugated packaging solutions ranging from standard transport packaging to specialities and dangerous goods products to a wide variety of industries, including multipoint gluing, barrier solutions, micro-flutes and high-quality post prints.

In Poland, Mondi corrugated packaging business is said to have particular expertise in shelf-ready packaging, e-commerce packaging and solutions for retail customers.

Mondi corrugated packaging Poland regional manager Grzegorz Kulesza said: "We look forward to working with our new colleagues in Grabonóg and the experience they will bring to Mondi."

Subject to Polish competition clearance and other customary conditions, the acquisition will bring the number of box plants with Mondi in Poland to six.

Mondi corrugated packaging COO Armand Schoonbrood said: "This acquisition improves our customer offer in Poland and strengthens our market position. The plant fits well with our strategy of investing in competitive operations with potential for future growth."

With nearly 25,000 employees, Mondi has operations in central Europe, Russia, North America and South Africa.
