Multi Packaging Solutions, a US-based value-added print and packaging provider for the branded consumer and healthcare markets, has launched its latest innovation in retail solutions for software download cards called Spotlight Package.

Spotlight Package allows download cards to stand out alongside physical media.

The patent-pending package includes a paperboard tray that holds cards securely and a clear plastic sleeve that allows full product visibility.

The company said that both components can be customised with an array of decorative technologies to coordinate with the download card and offer additional messaging to attract consumer interest.

Multi Packaging Solutions global marketing vice-president Erin Willigan said: "With the shift in software game formats from physical media to downloadable content, maintaining a strong presence at retail can be challenging.

"We’ve created the Spotlight Package to display download cards with more visual impact alongside console game titles, where consumers are more likely to discover them while browsing for entertainment options."

The Spotlight Package debuts with the release of PayDay2 by software publisher 505 Games.

"Our success has come in many forms, but the buzz being generated by the Spotlight pack at retail has been phenomenal."

With the Spotlight Package, publishers can now showcase game features that would not otherwise fit in the footprint available on a download card alone. In addition, the Spotlight Package is fully recyclable.

505 Games consultant vice-president Nic Ashford said: "505 Games continually strives to find new ways to cross-promote and bridge the gap between physical and digital titles.

"Our success has come in many forms, but the buzz being generated by the Spotlight Package at retail has been phenomenal.

"With this innovative package, retailers can now successfully merchandise digital-based products, finally solving the age-old problem of how to tap into the ever-growing digital revenue stream."
