North American medical packaging provider Neenah has expanded its single-use sterile packaging range with the addition of an ultra-lightweight reinforced paper solution.
The ultra-lightweight paper-based solution is of a 72g to a square metre (gsm) grade. It is said to be affordable and long-lasting when compared to kraft and synthetic-based medical packaging.
The product can be used as a sustainable substitute for nasal swabs, syringes and other single-use medical applications.
This solution complements Neenah’s existing medical packaging offerings, including lightweight (85gsm) and heavyweight (112gsm) options.
Neenah uses fibres controlled by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to produce its paper-based products.
These fibres comply with regulatory standards and accept steam and ethylene oxide sterilisation methods.
The company claims its products also offer more breathable barrier properties, as well as better conformability and printability.
Neenah international sales development manager Jaime Zohrer said: “We have recently witnessed extreme and unprecedented growth in the wound care market.
“With this revolutionary, ultra-lightweight reinforced paper, Neenah is reacting in real-time to help our customers grow and embrace new opportunities. I’m excited to bring this innovative solution to the market.”
Based in Alpharetta, Georgia, Neenah manufactures premium packaging for various markets.
These include water filters, spirits, technology, beauty products, industrial labels, tapes and abrasives, and digital printing for high-end clothing.
The company currently has manufacturing facilities across North America, Europe and Asia.
Last month, Neenah completed its previously announced acquisition of Global Release Liners, the parent company of Industrias de Transformacion de Andoain (ITASA), in a deal valued at around €205m ($249m).
The company signed a definitive agreement to acquire Global Release Liners in March.
