UK-based packaging provider Coveris is set to unveil its new Nextrus boneless shrink bags in November.

To be launched at the upcoming Pack Expo in Chicago, Illinois, US, the new Nextrus bags will be used for protein packaging.

Coveris said that Nextrus’ shrink capabilities enable vacuum tightness with less packaging, and have made the product more eco-friendly than its existing counterparts.

Equipped with an outer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer, Nextrus bags use a barrier system that removes the yellowing tendencies of traditional protein packaging solutions.

Coveris marketing director Rebecca Casey said: “One of consumer’s top concerns when they go shopping is the appearance of meat in the package.

The company also noted that it has used newly engineered, environmentally friendly resins to develop Nextrus.

The resins reduce leaks and offer improved puncture resistance, helping to keep the packed product fresh.

Last month, Coveris said that it had developed a new range of drinks labels for UK-based smoothie brand, Innocent.
