"The firm had voluntarily recalled 1.4 million packages of birth control pills due to packaging error in September 2011."

According to the lawsuit, the birth control pills were packaged in a wrong way. When the package was rotated 180°, it reversed the the way pills should be taken, in other words, women consumed placebo pills when they should take active tablets, reported ABC News.

The placebo pills were taken at the wrong time of the month, thereby making them vulnerable to unwanted pregnancies.

Due to the packaging error, 94 of the 113 women carried their pregnancies to term and 17 of them became pregnant though they did not carry their babies to term.
