Glass bottle manufacturer Owens-Illinois (O-I) has invested in a new furnace with advanced glassmaking technology at its production facility in Holzminden, Germany.

Located at O-I’s existing factory in Lower Saxony, Germany, the new furnace will use the O-I’s Magma technology and will have a flexible production line.

The furnace will also allow the company to increase testing intensity and scope.

O-I Europe president Vitaliano Torno said: “Innovation and technology are key cornerstones of O-I’s business strategy. The Magma technology enables us to define a new way of making glass to better serve our customers and bring more options and flexibility to production.”

The company initially introduced the Magma technology in November 2018 on a pilot line at its facility in Streator, Illinois, US.

Magma is designed to transform glassmaking with new processes and is suitable for ultra-flexible glass production.
