US-based speciality paper manufacturer Pixelle Specialty Solutions has announced the closure of its Chillicothe Paper Mill, with production set to cease by 10 August 2025.
The closure will take place in phases to relocate the majority of its operations to the company’s Spring Grove, Pennsylvania site.
The company has updated its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices to employees, marking the end of an era for the facility that has long been a part of the local community.
While Pixelle remains open to selling the plant, preparations for decommissioning are underway in the absence of a qualified buyer.
The company plans to transfer the property to an entity designated by JobsOhio or another government body for a nominal fee to facilitate the site’s long-term redevelopment if no sale occurs.
Since the initial announcement in April, Pixelle has been seeking alternatives to keep the mill operational. In collaboration with government and community partners, the company has explored every possible path to avoid closure.
