Packaging and protective solution provider Pregis has invested $5m in its facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US.
The company has invested in its fourth multilayer Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H) blown film line to meet the growing demand.
The extruder will increase the company’s output with an additional £4m a year.
The investment follows the $32m outlay for the first three five-layer W&H lines. The transaction was made between 2016 and 2019 and was used to expand production space.
Pregis chief innovation officer Tom Wetsch said: “We are seeing increased demand for higher quality flexible packaging, e-commerce protective material and surface protection films.
“Our continued investment in this facility will help us meet market segment expectations for package performance and provide vertical integration for some of Pregis’ other products.”

By GlobalDataApart from four W&H lines, the 90,000ft² Grand Rapids facility accommodates four advanced multilayer blown film extrusion lines and a film lab.
In addition to the new line, the packaging firm is leasing an additional 35,000ft² space for expanded warehouse.
The leased space will allow Pregis Films to develop programmes on customer inventory to reduce converter lead times.
In April, Pregis invested $6m in the same facility to increase production.
In partnership with brand owners, Pregis Films’ research and development team manufactures resin blend and operating range for their specific application.
