Future Materials Sweden is transitioning from research to industrial-scale operations through a new investment in dry-moulded fibre (DMF) technology.
This follows the joint development of fibre-based snus cans alongside Swedish DMF company PulPac and marks a shift toward commercial production.

To facilitate this expansion, Future Materials has ordered two specialised Scala machines to be installed at a newly established production facility in Ljungby, Småland.
This site will serve as the company’s inaugural manufacturing hub, designed to meet high-volume demands.
As a high-volume, demanding category, PulPac noted that snus cans highlight the potential for fibre-based solutions to replace traditional plastic packaging.
Future Materials Sweden founder Morgan Svensson said: “Now we’re shifting gears from development to production.”
“We already have a first customer journey underway, but our ambition is to build something much bigger. We’re actively looking to partner with more brands ready to bring fibre-based snus packaging to market. Interpack will be a great opportunity to meet – we’ll be there together with PulPac to discuss what this could look like for new customers.”
The establishment of this facility in Sweden underscores the country’s growing influence as a centre for fibre-based innovation, with Småland specifically emerging as a focal point for industrial adoption, added PulPac.

The new snus cans will be showcased at the upcoming interpack trade fair.
Earlier this month, PulPac announced that its intellectual property portfolio within DMF has exceeded 500 national patent grants worldwide.
