UK beverage can maker Rexam has been selected by Portuguese beer brand Sagres to create new can designs for its drinks.
The company has used HD printing techniques and matt-over-varnish finish to create limited-edition can designs that promote the cultural diversity of ten regions in Portugal.
Produced at Rexam’s La Selva plant in Spain, the 33cl cans have been designed by Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos.
The La Selva plant had undergone an extensive engineering project to operate with aluminium-only production lines.
Sagres marketing manager Raul Simão said: “The cans have great standout on shelf and we know our customers will love them. Working alongside a like-minded brand that shares our values of innovation and commitment to sustainability was key in helping us to choose the right partner.”
In January, Rexam was selected by Danish brewer Carlsberg to design a new cut-out tab for its beer range.

Carlsberg will implement the new tab in conjunction with its standard can design in Norway across its beer range, with plans to launch in other markets.
