US-based sustainable and compliant packaging solutions firm Sana Packaging has established a partnership with Oceanworks to introduce a new line of reclaimed ocean plastic cannabis packaging.

The new product line is made using 100% plant-based and chemical-free hemp plastic. The company will introduce the products this year.

Sana Packaging co-founder and CEO Ron Basak-Smith said: “We’re extremely excited about working with Oceanworks. This is an incredible opportunity to help clean our oceans and protect some of our planet’s most fragile ecosystems.

“While hemp bioplastics will remain our core focus, ocean plastic is a problem we have to address.”

Sana Packaging uses 100% plant-based hemp plastic and other sustainable materials to develop a wide range of wholesale and custom packaging solutions for the cannabis industry.

Products offered by the company include containers, tubes and customisable hemp paperboard packaging.

“This is an incredible opportunity to help clean our oceans and protect some of our planet’s most fragile ecosystems.”

Established in 2016, Oceanworks, in collaboration with its partners, aims to clean oceans by removing plastic waste.

The company created a marketplace to provide ocean plastic material collected globally to various businesses.

Members of the marketplace, including collectors, processors, manufacturers, brands and other stakeholders pledged to adhere to sourcing standards, as well as use the OceansMade mark to showcase product origin and authenticity.

All the members are currently working collaboratively to remove two million tonnes of ocean plastic and use the waste to produce sustainable products.
