Making the Packaging System Fit the Circular Economy

For the packaging industry to achieve a sustainable future, it needs to dramatically increase circularity and the reuse of materials. While shifting from a linear economy to a circular model will take time, there are already actions that brands, manufacturers, and converters can already take to help make a difference. This document by Siegwerk – a global leader in inks and coatings for packaging – delves into solving the plastic paradox, looks at the relevance of bioplastics, and sets out ways to not only achieve circularity in packaging but also make it economically viable. Furthermore, the document goes into detail on how printing inks and coatings are vital for enabling circularity in packaging. Ultimately, the packaging system needs to be reconfigured for a circular future. And consumers are expecting the packaging industry to play its part in progress. To take the first step towards circularity, download this document.

The kit is designed to enable electronic tracking of medication dispensed to patients.

It features a multi-vial box with continuous number designated perforated areas corresponding to individual compartments.

When a vial from a compartment is taken out, it is tracked in real-time through printed electronic provision integration.

The system generates all data in real-time, including exact removal time, the specific compartment from which the vial was removed, as well as the respective medication.

All data is automatically stored in the packaging and can be retrieved through a smartphone app using Near Field Communication (NFC) or Bluetooth.

The information can be transferred into a data platform for additional analysis.

The packaging kit for vials can be equipped with heat monitoring technology when using temperature-sensitive or liquid substances. It also allows reminder function integration.

“The packaging kit for vials can be equipped with heat monitoring technology when using temperature-sensitive or liquid substances.”

Utilising its medication adherence monitoring capabilities, Schreiner MediPharm has specifically designed the kit for clinical trials to help in achieving better data quality.

Smart Vial Kit streamlines the trials by reducing documentation requirements and offers greater flexibility in selecting trial designs.

The kit can be adapted to other medical containers such as syringes. It is also available as a blister pack.

At the Pharmapack 2019, Schreiner MediPharm will showcase the Smart Blister Pack, which is an NFC label for digital authentication of autoinjectors. It will also present its UV and light protection labels for glass containers with liquid medicines.
