Food packaging company Sealed Air has started construction on its new headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, US.

The company plans to invest $58m in the new headquarters at LakePointe Corporate Center.

To be spread over an area of roughly 300,000ft², the three-building headquarters will house a R&D unit and a customer learning centre.

The company will move to the new campus in early 2017 where it will employ around 1,300 people, with half of them from the local community.

"We are confident that the site Sealed Air has selected for its new global headquarters will allow us to fully execute our vision of constructing a unique, technologically advanced facility."

Sealed Air has selected real estate company Childress Klein as its development partner, HOK for the design and engineering of the facility, and Stantec as project management contractor.

The company announced its decision to shift its headquarters from New York to Charlotte in July last year. It is currently working from a leased office space in Charlotte.

The project is being backed by $36m worth of incentives from the local government, a $2.5m grant, as well as city and county incentives of $4.4m.

Sealed Air CEO Jerome Peribere previously said: "We are confident that the site Sealed Air has selected for its new global headquarters will allow us to fully execute our vision of constructing a unique, technologically advanced facility that flows in harmony with its natural surroundings."

Sealed Air offers its products to food and beverage packaging sector. Its product line includes Cryovac brand food packaging, bubble wrap cushioning and Diversey cleaning and hygiene for the food supply chain.

With operations across 175 countries, the company generates approximately $7bn in revenues.
