AMP Robotics has installed its Cortex recycling robot at Dem-Con Companies, a US-based recycling, processing and disposal company, to sort food and beverage cartons.
The installation of AMP Cortex robot at Dem-Con represents the second deployment after its successful pilot project earlier this year.

The deployment also forms a part of the Carton Council’s ongoing efforts to expand carton recycling.
AMP Cortex robot is capable of identifying, collecting and sorting food and beverage cartons from the recycling stream.
When fully operational, the robots can collect up 60 cartons a minute, which is significantly higher than the average human pickup rate of 40 cartons.
Sorted cartons are then delivered to recycling facilities and transformed into new materials.

By GlobalDataAMP Robotics Matanya Horowitz said: “While the AMP Cortex is currently sorting only food and beverage cartons, it is learning from all the materials that pass below it and getting smarter each day.
“In the future, it will be able to not only sort other recyclables but also be programmed to pick out contaminants, such as plastic bags, leading to a more cost-effective and safer MRF environment for the humans working on the line.”
The robot delivered under the pilot project pilot for the AMP Cortex at Alpine Waste & Recycling in Denver is currently operating and collecting data up to 16 hours a day.
Driven by the success at the Alpine facility, the company advanced with the second installation as the robot can now identify and sort more carton types.
