The new Sidel StarLite Nitro is also designed to reduce packaging weight and energy consumption.

Compatible with regular, ultra clean and aseptic filling, the new base is available for bottles in sizes ranging from 0.2l to 2.0l.

According to Sidel, under certain conditions a 0.5l PET?bottle with a StarLite Nitro base weighing 1.8gm can resist an internal pressure of up to one bar.

Sidel packaging and tooling vice-president Vincent Le Guen said: “The large and stable surface upon which the bottle stands, combined with other structural elements within the bottle design, enables the formed PET bottle to better withstand the internal pressure caused by the addition of nitrogen and improves bottle stability during conveying, depending on the wall thickness of the base.

"This solution addresses beverage producers’ needs, who are looking for ways to lower their total cost of ownership (TCO) to stay ahead in a competitive market yet still achieve even greater sustainability.

“The new Sidel StarLite Nitro base also ensures packaging integrity and creates an end-product which is packaged in a way that grabs consumers’ attention.”

Additionally, Sidel StarLite Nitro can be incorporated with any Sidel blowing machine, including the latest Sidel Matrix blowers.

Bottles with the new Sidel base can endure storage temperatures of up to 50°C for a maximum of 25 days, without deformation.

Sidel launched its StarLite base for PET bottles in 2013.
