Styers Equipment and Colordyne Technologies (CDT) have teamed up to carry out installations for the Digital Flexo-bility upgrade programme in North America.
The upgrade programme enables operators to convert an existing printing press to a new hybrid modular digital web press.
With a new digital printing machine, operators can use existing inventory of plate cylinders and dies instead of an expensive off-line servo driven die-cutter/slitter re-winder.
The machine features CDT 1600-PC Retrofit digital label and tag printing platform, offering high print quality, fast job production, and low equipment cost.
Powered by Memjet, the CDT digital printing press runs at speeds up to 200ft per minute at 1600x1200 dots per inch.
The Digital Flexo-bility upgrade programme helps label converters add full colour digital inkjet printing to their existing flexographic press for a better printing output.
With the upgrade programme, operators can print small jobs digitally and add full colour variable data to traditional analog processes, avoiding set-up expenses.
Operators can queue and run multiple jobs in the same run and change copy (part numbers, logos, sequential numbers) at any point before production, with Retrofit's just-in-time printing solutions.
Styers Equipment president Justin Styers described the CDT Digital Flexo-bility upgrade as "truly revolutionary".
"The combination of fast print speeds, high resolution and ease of operation are unmatched in the industry and we are privileged to have the opportunity to advance this technology," added Styers.
"Colordyne has changed the dynamic of everything we've known about short runs and as print speeds continue to increase over time, we expect run lengths to increase as well."
