SunDance has broadened the use of its POUCH³ flexible packaging to the cereal segment, presenting it as another option to the long-established bag-in-box format.
SunDance said POUCH³ changes that arrangement via a patented cuboid flexible design that seeks to combine the shelf presence of a box with changes in material use, pack graphics and logistics.

The company said POUCH³ differs from standard stand-up pouches by retaining a rigid-looking, box-style form and offering six printable sides.
According to SunDance, those extra printed areas can be used for product information, recipes, sustainability statements, seasonal designs and other on-pack content.
SunDance provides digital printing for the format.
The company said this production method is suited to shorter runs tied to holiday packs, limited-time offers, market trials, regional activity, retailer-specific editions and seasonal varieties, without the longer-run demands usually linked to conventional production.
The pack is designed to cut headspace and make fuller use of volume, while also aiding case packing, pallet loading, warehouse storage and transport density.
The use of a single-film structure also reduces complexity in the overall pack format.
POUCH³ uses 30% to 40% less material than standard stand-up pouches and can be made with recyclable and post-consumer recycled film structures, depending on product and performance needs.
SunDance sales and marketing senior vice-president Kandi Johansmeyer said: “Cereal brands should not have to choose between strong shelf presence and packaging innovation. POUCH³ preserves the familiar, space-efficient shape consumers and retailers recognise while giving manufacturers a flexible package designed for modern production, distribution and marketing needs.
“The cereal aisle is an ideal setting for this technology. POUCH³ gives brands a differentiated package with premium graphics and strong shelf impact while helping them use space and materials more efficiently. It is an opportunity to modernise one of the grocery aisle’s most recognisable formats.”
