Switzerland-based specialty chemicals group Clariant’s healthcare packaging business unit is set to launch new desiccant canisters with red labelling to help differentiate them from drug products.
Made from US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Union (EU)-compliant materials, the coloured labels exhibit ‘Do Not Eat’ in various languages.

The labels also feature an outer varnish coating to prohibit ink from coming in direct contact with the drug.
Customers can customise the canister labels with specific colour-differentiation and as per specific branding requirements.
Clariant healthcare packaging sales head Philippe Depois said: "All desiccant canisters are marked with warnings to help avoid accidental ingestion.
"However, depending on the colour of the drug there may not be a sharp contrast.

The company said that its entire rigid canisters line is designed for high-speed insertion and can be used for controlled atmosphere packaging, which requires control over moisture, oxygen, odour and other volatiles.
Its active packaging platform can also be modified with several sorbent materials, such as silica gel and molecular sieve.
Drop-in style desiccants are mainly used to control moisture in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical bottle packaging applications.
With an existing capacity to manufacture over one billion desiccant canisters annually at its plant in Belen, New Mexico, US, Clariant is also building a new plant in Cuddalore, India.
When completed, the Indian plant will produce labelled desiccant canisters.
